Hey,

Yesterday I shared some of the details of our internal quick win SEO process and tool.

This is the first process we hand off to our junior SEO's because it's easy to learn and delivers quick results.

And while I would love to share all of our SEO processes with you…

...this is the one that's going to help you the most right now:

So today I'm going to-
  • Give you access to our internal quick win SEO tool
  • Show you how to set it up
  • And how to create your personalised "quick win" SEO strategy
Then on Thursday, I'm going to show you how to put it all into action.  Deal?

Step 1 - Finding Opportunities

The first thing we need to do is get a list of keywords that are currently ranking between position 2 and 19.

If you're on a budget you can do this with Google Search Console's performance report.  Just set the date to the last 3 months and select your target country-

Then export the table so it includes click, impression and position data.  You'll need to manually delete any keywords that rank in position 1 and anything above 19.

Internally though, we use Ahrefs because it includes position filters whilst also providing search volume and keyword difficulty data-

You can also achieve something similar with SEMRush.

Whatever approach or tool you use, you just need to export all of the keywords that are currently ranking between positions 2 and 19.

Step 2 - Select Your Targets

Depending on the size of your site, this search may have returned thousands of keywords.

Now we need to surgically select 5 keywords that have the right balance of-
  • Relevance
  • Intent
  • Search volume
  • Keyword difficulty
Each keyword you choose to go after is going to cost business resources and it's easy to get trigger happy, so you need to be extra critical with your selections.

I have written an entire process on how to target the right topics and keywords because it's less about individual search volume and more about overall strategy.

But for now:

Just select the 5 quick win opportunities that are most relevant to you.

And if you want to repeat this process again later with more keywords, you can.  That's what I love about repeatable SEO processes!

Step 3 - Plan Your Attack

With your quick win targets in hand, it's time to build out your strategy.

The first thing you need to do is make a copy of our quick win strategy building tool.

Just open it and click File > Make a copy to do that.

Then you just have to fill it out using the data you exported earlier-

Don't worry if you don't have the keyword difficulty and search volume metrics because they are only used for reference.

But you can always get search volume data from Google Keyword Planner if you want.

And that's it!

The sheet has now built out a series of things for you to check, review and implement.

And each of those things have their own specific processes which I'll be sharing with you in Thursday's email.

For now:

Just make a copy of the quick win SEO tool and fill it out with the 5 most important quick win opportunities you find.

Because on Thursday I am going to guide you through the integration of the strategy.

In the meantime:

Please reply to this email and let me know how many quick win SEO opportunities you found.
