How To Execute Your Quick Win SEO Strategy

Hey,

This week I've been showing you how our quick win SEO process works.

If you've been following along:

You should've already selected 5 keywords & generated your quick win strategy!

Now it's time to execute.

Scroll to the right of your quick win strategy sheet, you will see a series of recommendations.

All you have to do, is work through the recommendations for each target keyword:

Featured Snippet Theft

Do a search for your target keyword. If you see a featured snippet, we are going to try and steal it through the power of observation.
Image
All you have to do is look at the current ranking page and then replicate the featured snippet on your page as closely as possible.

For example, if Google is showing a 56 word paragraph after a H2 that includes the target keyword - you need to do the same.

But if Google is showing a list of items and your page doesn't have a list, you need to add one as well.

Just observe and integrate.

FAQ Schema

I have seen consistent improvements in CTR when integrating FAQ schema and it's so easy to do!

Just search for your target keyword and look for the people also ask box-
Image
If you see one, make a note of 3 to 5 relevant questions.  You can click on the questions to generate more ideas.

Then add an FAQ section to your content that is visible to everyone like this-
Image
Next just use my FAQ rich snippet tool to generate the code you need to add to your page. Simple!

Surfer SEO Optimization

Myself and the wider SEO community are seeing great results when optimizing content with Surfer SEO.

All you have to do is run your target keyword and page through the tool, then follow the recommendations it makes-
Image
It doesn't get much easier than that!

Internal Linking

There are lots of different internal linking strategies, but we score quick SEO wins by-
  1. Updating all existing internal links to 100% exact match anchor text
  2. Adding new internal links to relevant content where possible
The easiest way to do that is to run a scan with Screaming Frog, select your target URL and then click on the InLinks tab-
Image
Then go through each internal link and update the anchor text to be 100% exact match like the image above.

Finally, do a site:domain.com <broad relevant keyword> search in Google to find more relevant pages you can add internal links to.

Forcing Google's Hand

When you have finished making changes to your pages…

...you should re-index them through Google Search Console so they process those changes immediately.

Just inspect your URL and click on "Request Indexing", you'll see a message like this-
Image
And if you've added FAQ structured data to your page, you'll see this live in the search results within the hour!

The Next Steps

Now all you have to do is sit back, relax and observe.

BUT:

If we don't see the page move into the top 3 for our target keyword within 3 weeks…
Image
...then we send it through our content promotion process and ultimately, our link building processes.

Remember:

SEO is just a series of repeatable processes.

And just like we have a step by step process to score quick wins...

...we also have step by step processes for link building, on page SEO, hiring writers, optimising content, technical SEO and more.

That means my team always knows what to do, when to do it and how to do it.

But most importantly:

It means that we can build complete SEO strategies that scale whilst being able to train new team members effectively.

This is the beauty of having a set of repeatable SEO processes.

Which leads me to ask:

Are you using step by step SEO processes in your business? And if not, why not?

Please reply to this email and let me know!  Plus I would love to know if you're going to try my quick win SEO process?

- Matthew Woodward

Ps.  You should set a rescuing task to repeat the quick win SEO process every 90 days.  Then you'll always be pulling ahead.

PPs.  On Monday I am going to send you the results of something I've been working on for the last several months.  I'll be damned if this pesky Coronavirus stops me from sharing it with you, so keep your eyes on your inbox Monday morning.

The Quick Win SEO Process + Tool

Download a copy of my internal quick win SEO strategy building tool inside this email
Hey,

Yesterday I shared some of the details of our internal quick win SEO process and tool.

This is the first process we hand off to our junior SEO's because it's easy to learn and delivers quick results.

And while I would love to share all of our SEO processes with you…

...this is the one that's going to help you the most right now:
Image
So today I'm going to-
  • Give you access to our internal quick win SEO tool
  • Show you how to set it up
  • And how to create your personalised "quick win" SEO strategy
Then on Thursday, I'm going to show you how to put it all into action.  Deal?

Step 1 - Finding Opportunities

The first thing we need to do is get a list of keywords that are currently ranking between position 2 and 19.

If you're on a budget you can do this with Google Search Console's performance report.  Just set the date to the last 3 months and select your target country-
Image
Then export the table so it includes click, impression and position data.  You'll need to manually delete any keywords that rank in position 1 and anything above 19.

Internally though, we use Ahrefs because it includes position filters whilst also providing search volume and keyword difficulty data-
Image
You can also achieve something similar with SEMRush.

Whatever approach or tool you use, you just need to export all of the keywords that are currently ranking between positions 2 and 19.

Step 2 - Select Your Targets

Depending on the size of your site, this search may have returned thousands of keywords.

Now we need to surgically select 5 keywords that have the right balance of-
  • Relevance
  • Intent
  • Search volume
  • Keyword difficulty
Each keyword you choose to go after is going to cost business resources and it's easy to get trigger happy, so you need to be extra critical with your selections.

I have written an entire process on how to target the right topics and keywords because it's less about individual search volume and more about overall strategy.

But for now:

Just select the 5 quick win opportunities that are most relevant to you.

And if you want to repeat this process again later with more keywords, you can.  That's what I love about repeatable SEO processes!

Step 3 - Plan Your Attack

With your quick win targets in hand, it's time to build out your strategy.

The first thing you need to do is make a copy of our quick win strategy building tool.

Just open it and click File > Make a copy to do that.

Then you just have to fill it out using the data you exported earlier-
Image
Don't worry if you don't have the keyword difficulty and search volume metrics because they are only used for reference.

But you can always get search volume data from Google Keyword Planner if you want.

And that's it!

The sheet has now built out a series of things for you to check, review and implement.

And each of those things have their own specific processes which I'll be sharing with you in Thursday's email.

For now:

Just make a copy of the quick win SEO tool and fill it out with the 5 most important quick win opportunities you find.

Because on Thursday I am going to guide you through the integration of the strategy.

In the meantime:

Please reply to this email and let me know how many quick win SEO opportunities you found.

Quick Win SEO

This quick win SEO process gives us the most significant results with the least amount of effort.
Hey,

Most people think that SEO is complicated, but really it's just a series of repeatable processes.

Whether ranking our latest affiliate site or increasing search visibility for an ecommerce client, we just follow our core SEO processes step by step.

So I wanted to share our "quick win SEO process" and internal tool with you.

It's the first process I teach our new junior SEO's because-
  • It's easy to learn
  • It's quick to do
  • It delivers fast results
Image
In fact:

If your site is getting any level of search traffic at the moment, it's likely you are sitting on a bunch of quick win SEO opportunities unknowingly.

It's amazing how many sites I look at that are sat on search traffic goldmines…

...but are so distracted with keyword research, contention creation and link building they can't see the woods for the trees.

That's why I developed my own SEO processes, because it always felt like I was distracted with one thing or another, fighting fires and "reacting" to the algorithm rather than attacking it with precision.

Now my team always knows what to do, when to do it and how to do it.

The quick win SEO process gives us the most significant results with the least amount of effort-
Image
So I'm going to do you a solid and share our internal tool and the complete quick win SEO process with you.

I'll teach you how to find all the "quick win SEO" opportunities that are currently available to you…

...and most importantly:

Precisely HOW to deal with them!

I will also show you how to prioritize these opportunities because if you are working on a larger site, it's easy to be overwhelmed.

You are going to learn:
  1. How to identify quick win SEO opportunities across your site
  2. The specific strategies and techniques you need to implement
  3. When to repeat this process for maximum impact
And in tomorrow's email I'm going to give you a copy of our internal "quick win strategy building tool".

It builds out the integration strategy for you so you'll know exactly what to do, how to do it and when to do it.

In the meantime:

I would love to know if you've tried any quick win SEO strategies before? Reply to this email and let me know!

- Matthew Woodward

Ps. Don't forget that tomorrow I am going to be sharing our internal quick win strategy builder with you.  Don't miss out because it could be used to outrank you!

New Ranking Factor

Hey,

I wanted to test a hidden new ranking signal that no one is talking about.

So last year I built a series of sites to see if it affects rankings or not-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lmeRBxQCRI

Interestingly:

Most people are automatically deleting this new ranking factor without knowing it, including me!

What do you think about my experiment and it's results?

- Matthew Woodward

Ps. On Monday I'm going to send you the exact process that we use to score quick SEO wins, don't miss it.

Can you help me out?  I just need you to answer 2 very quick questions here-

You can also learn a little bit more about the course at the same time!
